Ensuring reliability where it matters most. FOERSTER provides comprehensive inspection services for reformer tubes and components used in hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and DRI plants worldwide.
With decades of experience in eddy current testing and laser-based measurement, we make material integrity visible – helping you extend the life of your assets, prevent downtime, and operate safely.
Services
FOERSTER’s Inspection Business Unit offers complete solutions for the non-destructive testing of reformer tubes and related components. Our specialists are certified NDT inspectors (EN ISO 9712, Level 2 and 3) who perform automated inspections with proprietary systems like LEO-Scan (OD inspection) and LEO-iScan (ID inspection).
Together, these systems detect cracks, creep, and material degradation throughout the tube’s entire service life – from commissioning to replacement. Supplementary measurements on top ends and outlet pigtails ensure that even critical areas outside the furnace are monitored precisely.
Customers benefit from consistent data, repeatable results, and tailored inspection intervals for optimal asset integrity management. FOERSTER’s integrated approach combines eddy current and laser techniques to deliver FOERSTER-adopted API 579 Remaining Life Assessments (RLA) and supports informed maintenance or replacement decisions.
By partnering with FOERSTER, you ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency – across the complete lifecycle of your reformer tubes and components.
Reformer tube inspection
FOERSTER inspects reformer tubes from the outside and inside using LEO-Scan and LEO-iScan systems. Combined eddy current and laser measurements detect cracks, creep, and strain throughout the tube wall – forming the basis for accurate Remaining Life Assessments (RLA).
Thermal fatigue often starts inside the top ends of reformer tubes – invisible until failure occurs. FOERSTER’s specialized eddy current technique detects these hidden cracks early, preventing costly outages and ensuring safe, reliable operation of your reformer.
Outlet pigtails are key safety components. With our custom measurement devices, FOERSTER monitors their diameter, strain, and magnetic permeability to assess creep and ductility – ensuring continued reliability even under extreme thermal stress.
